Who We Are
'meipel is a family-run company with over 90 years of experience in the bicycle industry. Founded by the Bachtenkirch family, 'meipel combines proven tradition with innovative technology to create bicycles that children and teenagers love. We stand for the highest quality, modern design, and durable materials – for bikes that grow with you and are ready for any adventure.

Our Roots and Inspiration
The name 'meipel' is derived from the English word "maple" and symbolizes our connection to nature, the freedom to explore new paths, and the lightness of our bikes. Inspired by the boundless expanse of Canada, our bikes stand for adventure, independence, and the joy of discovery.

"First, I'm contributing my industry experience to the new company Meipel GmbH. Since the 1990s, I have specialized in children's and youth bicycles within the bicycle industry. But my products were never as attractive as the new 'meipel' bicycles. It therefore gives me great pleasure to have been given a very exciting and responsible task here, representing the fourth generation of Bachtenkirch bicycles.
The day children get their first own bicycle is probably one of the happiest days of their lives. The new mobility fills them with pride and gives them a very special feeling of freedom. It is therefore extremely important that children use their first bicycles with great enthusiasm and fun. With regular use, cycling becomes increasingly natural and ultimately contributes to environmentally friendly mobility."

"While still studying to become a design and project manager, I co-founded the new company Meipel GmbH in 2023 with an Asian bicycle manufacturer. My family has been involved with bicycles for four generations now. Most recently, my father specialized in children's and youth bicycles in the industry with his company. And this is exactly where I pick up with 'meipel'. I am convinced that bicycles will continue to play an important role in our society for our mobility in the very long term."
